According to recent studies, Texas ranks among the top 10 states that people are moving to and the Dallas area is seeing about a 6% growth rate year over year. As a result, more and more luxury Dallas apartments are also cropping up to meet the growing demand. If you’re in the process of planning a big move to the area, here are 7 organizational tips from Dallas Apartment Locators to make the entire process as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Start with a plan. Moving can become chaotic real quickly, so avoid this possibility and keep everything on track by establishing a plan. Grab a big notebook, preferably one with pockets, and start a list of all the tasks you need to complete and by when, listing them in order of priority. You can use the pockets of the notebooks to stash important move-related documents, such as the business card of the moving company you’ve chosen or receipts that you may need.
Pack wisely. The more organized you are from the get-go, the less stressful and chaotic the unpacking process will be once you’ve arrived at your new Dallas apartment. This can save both hassle and time. Start by systematically going room by room and packing those things that you don’t use every day. Try to pack like-items together and work in a logical fashion so that once you get settled into your new place, you’ll be able to easily find what you need and get things put where they belong quickly.
Label and prioritize your boxes. Remember, not everything will need to be unpacked the first day, so make things easier on yourself by clearly labeling what is in each box and prioritizing all of your boxes using an A/B/C system. This will help you quickly and easily determine which things you need to worry about right away and which ones can wait until things settle down a bit.
Purge. As you set about the packing process, chances are you’ll come across plenty of items you don’t really use or need anymore. Rather than trek these useless things along to clutter up your new place, make a point to purge at least a portion of it. For instance, as you dig through your drawers or closet, separate your clothing items into three piles: throw away, donate and keep. This will lighten your load and give you less to worry about when the unpacking process begins.
Schedule terminations/changeovers. Don’t forget to include calls to your utility providers, like the electric and cable companies, letting them know about your upcoming move and making the appropriate arrangements to have services either terminated or switched over to your new Dallas apartment. This may seem like an obvious step, but you’d be surprised at how many people overlook it and end up scrambling to get it done at the last minute. Believe us, you’ll have enough on your plate on moving day. The last thing you’ll need to worry about is whether or not the lights will work while you’re unpacking.
Plan accordingly for kids/pets. Children – whether of the two-legged or four-legged variety – can make moving an even more complicated and stressful experience. Minimize this by arranging appropriate care well in advance of your scheduled move. Have someone watch the kids while you’re packing, moving and unpacking so you can stay focused and on task. Make sure pets are kept some place safe, especially while the movers are in and out of both your old and new apartments to avoid a potential runaway situation.
Create a “survival box.” Save all the essentials that you’ll need on the first night in your new home and pack them into a special “survival box.” This will be particularly helpful if it’s too late or you’re way too tired to unpack when you first arrive at your new place. Some things to include might be non-perishable food items (like granola bars), bottled water, a flashlight, toiletries (including toilet paper), a change of clothes and some activities to keep you entertained in case the cable or internet isn’t hooked up right away.
